I know my NMFC number searching options:
Search the NMFC number in the NMFC verification tool, select the sub number that best applies, and record the freight class.
If density-based sub enter in the pallet dimensions and weight on quote details page.
Review the density provided under the commodity line item and notate it.
Select the sub and class that applies per the density you got on from the density calculation.
I DO NOT know my NMFC code and need help find one based on commodity description:
Search by keyword.
We recommend starting with generic terms, do not copy and paste specific commodity items into the search (e.g. if you ship polycarbonate wire mesh, we recommend searching “Wire” and browsing through the results to assess which NMFC code to selected).
Review results descriptions to help inform ways to refine your search
If the generic term you searched, provides too many results, try refining your search with an additional word (e.g. steel wire).
Tip - We Recommend having your product specifications sheet available while researching
I received an invoice where the freight class on my BOL did not match the carrier invoice:
Search the NMFC number the carrier provided on the invoice and/or W&I Certificate
Review the article description against your product specifications document
If the invoiced NMFC number is incorrect you may use the NMFC verification to help inform your dispute
If unsure on the correct classification considering requesting a disposition from the NMFTA.
The NMFTA does charge a fee for this service
Use the NFMC lookup tool to validate your commodities' classification.
Now add/update your commodity within your MyCarrierTMS product list so going forward you use the correct commodity.
